Councillor Lesley Smetham welcomed members of the local community to the Bromley Farm Wellbeing Hub. The Hub opened three years ago and is run by local volunteers with the support of Plus Dane Housing. It has now been given the status of Connected Communities Centre as part of the council’s new plan to bring services into the heart of neighbourhoods.
Councillor Smetham, Mayor of Cheshire East Council, said: “We want people in Bromley Farm and across Congleton to live the best life possible in Cheshire East and have access to social, health, work and leisure opportunities. This Wellbeing Hub is a vital part of helping to do that. One of the features of every Connected Communities Centre will be access to the Council’s new online community resource, called ‘Live Well Cheshire East’, residents can access Live Well services at the centre on a tablet which is free to use and easy to navigate.”
Cheshire East Council has invested £150,000 in developing Connected Communities centres and each one is supported by a neighbourhood partnership representing local people as well as a range of agencies, including the police, health services and the voluntary sector. The council plans to establish 30 centres across the borough by the end of this year, the Bromley Farm Wellbeing Hub became the 16th centre to be opened so far.
Andrea Howarth, Executive Director of Neighbourhoods at Plus Dane Housing, said “We have so many success stories of people who have improved their lives here through better wellbeing, lifestyle, work & training opportunities or simply making new friends. The Bromley Farm Wellbeing Hub is a focal point for lots of organisations and services such as Macclesfield College who will be offering an exciting range of adult training opportunities, One You Cheshire East and Stay & Play. We’re encouraging the local community to come along and find out about all the exciting new projects and activities on offer.”
A new ‘stay and play’ session will take place every Monday from 10 – 11.30am at the centre, beginning next week (22nd October). Parents and children aged 0-11 are welcome to come along and take part in a selection of free activities, arts and crafts, with complimentary refreshments, snacks and fruit on offer. It’s a great way for children to socialise with their parents and other children.
