Lisa Candland joined the organisation in 2023 in a new role as Director of Homes. It's a challenging role that incorporates a wide range of our service areas and is always changing to best adapt to the needs of our customers and our responsibilities as a Housing Association.
“I've been in housing for 14 years, before that I was in manufacturing and I didn't have any housing experience and I didn't have any repairs and maintenance experience, but I had transferable skills. I joined the housing sector, loved it and have now joined Plus Dane with a wider remit than I'm used to. But it’s really good, it gives me a bit of a stretch to help me develop and grow.
Repairs, maintenance, and asset management tend to be very male orientated. But I don't think Plus Dane is like that. Here in repairs and maintenance there are three female leaders. So I feel like we are well represented. In my previous workplaces sometimes I was the only female in the team. I do think things have changed over the years. Now there's a lot more opportunity for females coming in through various different routes.
We still probably don't have as many female operatives as we would like, but it is still a great opportunity for girls to get into trade apprenticeships and surveying and things like that.”
